In her Instagram account Subway Book Review, Uli Beutter Cohen spots readers in the New York City subway, interviews them for brief book reviews, and takes a snapshot which she later uploads. One shouldn't underestimate the amount of wisdom you might find in such a short account of such a brief encounter.

Today it seems like the talent of so many writers and journalists is poured into a bottomless pit of antagonism conducive to nowhere but dejection. Now that democracy and liberalism are in peril, the media consensus seems to be that the only viable way to fight for their survival is to stick to a sober, objective, well-informed and politically correct account of the helplessness of our political reality. It is in times like today's that I long for the raw, radical writing of the Hunter S. Thomson's kind. Dazed, confused, but ever-present and perceptive.
